Project Dungganon is a story of unlocking the entrepreneurship of hundreds of thousands of forgotten women in a forgotten island where the only thing you are supposed to survive on is to work as sugarcane farmers. In order to do it Cecile, Ching, and Cora moved away from the traditional role of NGO leaders, they brought out their top-quality entrepreneurship from their side to create a financially self-sustaining programme. Their entrepreneurship is dedicated to unfolding the entrepreneurship of women who were never thought of possessing any trace of entrepreneurship.

Obviously, this journey was a hazardous journey. This was ridden with doubts, many unknown pitfalls, and many uncertainties. This was the same for both Cecile and the women borrowers. But these are the challenges entrepreneurs are supposed to take. They took it gallantly. That’s the story of Project Dungganon.

About the Book

This book is not an academic work in history, economics, anthropology, or political science. Neither is it a summary of Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation’s (NWTF) annual reports. It simply narrates the evolution of NWTF from the perspective of its founders, along with the founders’ personal histories that shaped that organization into what it is today. It highlights women empowerment juxtaposed with patriarchal Philippine society; allows a glimpse of the social movement in post-EDSA Negros; and describes a type of organizational leadership, both personal and collective. In this age when spin-offs and breakaway groups are held synonymous to power and autonomy, collective leadership is almost unheard of, especially that which stands the test of time.
